Printemps 2020, alors que le monde entier subit la pandémie Covid 19 et rentre dans le confinement, WTFTHISYEAR décide de poster sur Soundcloud une série de morceaux les soirs de pleine lune. Cette série, qu'il intitule Nocturnes, n'a pas manqué d'attirer l'attention de La Phonkerie, tombée sous le charme de l'univers riche et envoûtant déployé par le producteur. Rapidement, une collaboration est envisagée et prend forme avec le titre I Was Smokin That Weed, piste 2 de la notre compilation Phonkerie Vol. 2, parue en février 2022. Parallèlement, WTF se lance dans la réalisation de son premier album, qui voit enfin le jour, un an plus tard.

Codeine Dreams apparaît comme une illustration on ne peut plus précise du son Phonk : références à la culture Screw de Houston, au Devil Shyt de Memphis, le tout dissous dans des rythmes Trap lourds et planants, parfois funky et bouncy, et allant même jusqu'à explorer la Drum N Bass par moments.

WTFTHISYEAR a réalisé cet album de bout en bout, du mix à la direction artistique, sur laquelle il a été épaulé par l'artiste El Bala Clava.

Spring 2020 : as the world is about to lock down during the pandemic, WTFTHISYEAR decides to post a serie of tracks on Soundcloud during the fool moon nights. This serie, called Nocturnes, with its rich and deep vibes, immediatly catchs the eye of La Phonkerie. Quickly, we have the idea of a collaboration, which takes life with I Was Smoking That Weed, track 2 of our compilation Phonkerie Vol. 2, released in february 2022. In the same time, WTF begins to work on in first first album, wich is here today, one year later.

Codeine Dreams is a perfect illustration of the Phonk sound : references to the Screw culture from Houston, the Devil Shyt from Memphis, mixed in deep trap rythms, sometimes funky and bouncy, and even Drum N Bass occasionally.

WTF created this album from start to finish, from mix to art direction, with the help of El Bala Clava on this part.

Another absolutely dope Dungeon Rap mix as usual from NAXXRAMAS. Perfectly mixed and produced. Stellar Dungeon Synth instrumentals that add a melancholic yet regal atmosphere. That Black Metal-esque part just before 30mins on side B is the shit too. I Can't praise this enough. 10/10 TepesLLN
